My 6th House (6th Bhava) ruler is Virgo which is ruled by Mercury, and Mars resides in my 6th House. In the body, Mercury governs the abdomen, generally, and more specifically, the intestines, lower spine, fingers and spleen. Mercury likes regularity and a good system attended to every day. Mars is actually a beneficial planet here, suggesting the ability to overcome obstacles with dedicated effort. I find that quite encouraging, actually, as it makes me feel that whatever may come up, I can handle it with steady and beneficial attention and effort, which Mercury also likes, so the two are working together here in my 6th House. And I have, for decades now, been interested in building routines for health. Though I struggle with maintaining them, I feel much better when I do.

Jewel – I found your analysis of Mars very interesting! The idea of overcoming obstacles with dedicated effort is very appealing to me. I’m also in the same boat – working on consistency with health routines, but definitely feel the difference when I am consitent. Thank you!

Jewel nice and positive. My 6th H is empty of planets in my D1 Avatar chart. However I do have Mercury and Mars in the 6th in my Navamsa. The Navamsa is my Dharma path and since I have my Sun/Jupiter in my 11th house in both D1 and D9 and this means my soul path arrives later in life (the 11 th is a house that I grow into and becomes stronger later in life) I believe the same for my expression of the Navamsa chart energies. So right now I am able to work with Mars and Mercury being there as when I was younger not just yet. In the D1 I have rulership of Shani in the 6th while Venus takes rulership in the Navamsa.

            and….
Class 2. because Saturn rules my 6 th house but resides in my 8th house I have a Vipareeta Raja yoga which means a little like that Shani as a ‘malefic’ in a ‘malefic’ house sits in another ‘malefic’ house is like a double negative to turn into a positive. It can create transformative defeat of obstacles. I face crises (appear devastating) but resolves in ways that make me stronger than before. I have studied Shani a-lot because of this yoga and have come to appreciate its energy. Saturn does not destroy what is truly meant for my highest evolution only what I outgrew and needed to go. Saturn loves the simple life and so do I in my daily routines and work. Ayurveda study has become a daily routine, slow but steady like Saturn.

Jewel, I love how you brought the different pieces of your chart together and connected them to your lived experience. Your interpretation of Mercury’s regularity alongside Mars’s capacity for dedicated effort gives me another way to approach this exercise as I’m still learning to make these connections myself. I also relate to feeling better when I consistently tend to my daily rhythms through nourishment, sleep, and emotional hygiene. What practices have helped you return to your routine when consistency feels challenging?

You inspired me to dig deeper. After reflecting on this exercise and looking more closely at my chart, I’m beginning to see how to approach the connection. Taurus occupies my sixth house, making Venus its ruler, and Venus sits in Leo in my ninth house. I’m learning to distinguish the sign occupying a house from its ruling planet, then explore where that planet is placed.

The connection between sixth-house daily practice and ninth-house spiritual study gives me something meaningful to reflect on. In my own life, the teachings I study become most meaningful when I bring them into nourishment, rest, and daily sādhanā. I notice that I feel better when I consistently tend to these rhythms. I’m still exploring the bodily associations of Venus, but I now have a clearer starting point for observing how spiritual learning becomes embodied practice.

So…LOL! First go round, I read my chart wrong, so this is a redo. All of you had such excellent interpretations of your own pattersn – it’s really inspiring!

My 6th house is actually empty of planetary placements.
With Taurus as my Ascendent in First house, my 6th house is Libra, ruled by Venus.
The nakshatra for my 6th House is Chitra (3rd pada), which shares Mercury and Venus as Star Lords. That bit is extra for this assignment, but I’m trying to get used to the language.

With the Sixth House being the house of health, disease, and daily practice, and it’s planetary ruler VIRGO governing, in general, the abdomen, and more specifically, the intestines, lower spine, fingers, and spleen, I’ve looked for health connections in those areas.

I’ve typically been someone with a “cast iron stomach”, but the two times I’ve had GI issues, they’ve been big problems, to the point of hospitalization.

I’ve never had a lot of pain in my fingers and have never broken any bones, but I bit my nails for years and they tend to peel. Also, my cuticles are usually pretty dry.

Lower back issues cropped up in my early 40’s and have been resolved with physical therapy.

Of the most interest to me is the relationship I’ve had with this area of my body. I’ve always had a difficult relationship with my belly, to the point of having self-diagnosed mild BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder). I’ve never seen this area of my body as beautiful, youthful, nice, or anything positive. But now, in my mid-40’s, and at the end of my Venus dasha, my feelings are changing to some extent. It just doesn’t seem as important for my belly to be a certain way – it doesn’t have the same gravity that it used to in my psyche, but that could also be connected to leaving the entertainment industry and moving out of Los Angeles which are both so physique-focused. I simply care less about it. At 46, I’ve gotten much more interested in getting stronger rather than thinner and I wonder if my Sun dasha which is next has anything to do with that shift in focus.

Also, a reminder to us all, no effort on this past is wasted! I’m so glad the connections I made, albeit when I was looking at my chart incorrectly, have been helpful, and the process of developing those connections have helped me further understand how the relationships and influences between House, Sign, Planetary Ruler, Dasa, etc can interact and inform my own experiences. Well done, all!

Vella, I usually need to wait for the urge to come back to re-start my practices, and that has traditionally included setting the stage by getting back to time in nature and hiking first, and working with my physical body in some way (a regular strength training class, getting back to a regular routine of 20 min of yoga every day, etc). Then, the desire to return to pranayama and meditation arrives. I usually need to work from the outside (physical body) in (mind, energy).

Manou, I LOVED reading what you’ve shared about your own chart! Fascinating!

Randall, yes, these relationships are nuances and complex, and looking at them on paper (house, sign, etc) is giving me insight to my own tendencies in life. 🙂

Thank you Jewel. (Been a pleasure) I am mid-way into my Venus Dasha which indicates a hight of the energy and I am struggling with sweets especially chocolate. Gained 4 kilos. Pffff on your upcoming Dasha check your sun in both D1 and D9. Also read up on the Nakshatras ruled by Surya. Watch out for ‘heat’ especially with a ‘hot’ antardasha like mars. And you are completely right; much better to make mistake so to learn from them. (I make lots of them but discovered I needed them)
