Not sure which program is right for you?
Designed for Success
Yoga Veda Institute’s Distance Program is designed for the Ayurvedic student that needs the freedom from location and time flexibility that distance education offers. As valuable as this freedom is to the needs of many women, many students find that they need certain elements of structure in order to be successful in their program.
Students are most likely to be successful in the YVI distance program if they:
- Are self-directed learners
- Are able to work independently
- Have access to local clinical opportunities
Freedom of Location
Students are able to complete their academic studies wherever they live in the world. Students must have access to the internet (high-speed options highly recommended), and have word processing and printing capabilities.
Clinical Training
Students complete their clinical training with an approved local preceptor and through our online internship program. Students may wish to identify appropriate clinical training options prior to entering the YVI program. Students then travel throughout the course of study to our facility in Sebastian Florida for additional clinical work and skills assessments. For those students who find travel to be an impossibility – various other options are available including transferring clinical studies from another recognized institution, working with a pre-approved faculty preceptor, or graduating as a non-certificate seeking student.
Time Flexibility
Students are able to complete academic and clinical work on their own time schedules. Students begin courses at the same time throughout the year; however, a student may find that they need extra time to complete a course. Students are encouraged to finish their courses within a trimester but may extend a course if necessary. Instructors, preceptors, and school mentors are available to support each student’s success in reaching their goals and moving through the program.
Major Maps
Major Maps are course completion schedules that students develop with the YVI Student Advisor. Major Maps allow students to see what course work must be completed within each trimester to meet the student’s graduation goal date. Major Maps give structure to the flexibility of YVI course work.
Financial Options & Incentives
YVI students do not need to worry about gathering a large sum of tuition all at once in order to finance their education. YVI offers students reasonable monthly payments and extended payment plans to make this program accessible.
The tuition is billed each trimester of enrollment at YVI as a certificate seeking student. The tuition covers all credits enrolled in at the beginning of each trimester. Students can take as few or as many credits as they wish each trimester of enrollment; the faster the student progress through the program, the more affordable the program.
The Ayurvedic Health Counselor program is designed to be completed in 1.5 years (4 trimesters). The Ayurvedic Practitioner program includes the full Ayurvedic Health Counselor program and is designed to be completed in 3 years (8 trimesters).
Students who opt to pay in full at the time of enrollment will benefit from an additional 20% Pay In Full incentive and will be billed for the recommended length of time to complete the program. Additional payments will only be billed should the student take longer than the allotted time to graduate, at which time will be billed at the published trimester tuition rate for each additional enrolled trimester.
Accessibility
Students can take as few or as many credits as they wish each trimester of enrollment; the faster the student progress through the program, the more affordable the certification.
Because the tuition covers all of the credits enrolled at the beginning of each trimester, students who wish to take more credits will progress through the program faster and more affordably.
For students in the position of taking longer than 6 years to complete the certificate program, there is a maximum total tuition cost which is capped.
Trimester Enrollments
The YVI academic year is divided into three trimesters.
Winter—January through March
Spring—April through June
Fall—October through December
Students may begin at any time throughout the year. Live classes commence at the beginning of each trimester. This encourages students to complete course work by the end of the trimester so that they can enroll in additional courses for the next trimester. The trimester system also allows students to begin new courses with other students at the same time, making student study groups more effective.
Personal Coaching
Personal coaching is a unique service that YVI offers students enrolled in the Distance program. Students have access to a student advisor throughout their program. Student advisors can help students identify and overcome progress challenges, suggest Major Map changes, and provide accountability and support through the student’s program.
Peer Groups
For some distance education students, isolation is a concern. YVI strives to mitigate isolation through healthy learning communities and peer-led support groups. An affinity group of peers creates relationships and a culture of accountability to each other. YVI is providing Ayurvedic education wherever there is an internet connection! Our students are building electronic communities across platforms and geographies!
Lifelong Experts & Passionate Instructors
Our curriculum brings experts with decades of experience in their specific area of expertise to a global audience. Each teacher is as unique as their subject matter and brings not only experience but a lifelong passion for their subject.
At YVI we become the best by learning from the best.

What is the difference between a Health Counselor, or Practitioner?
An Ayurvedic Health Counselor AHC (NAMA) is a trained specialist in diet, nutrition, and lifestyle choices from an Ayurvedic perspective. They have undergone 600+ hours of training in a program reviewed and approved by NAMA.
An Ayurvedic Practitioner AP (NAMA) is a professional with training in preventive healthcare, pathology and disease management and can treat specific manifestations using diet, herbal, and other Ayurvedic therapies. They have undergone 1500+ hours of training in a program reviewed and by NAMA.
Is your program recognized by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association?
Yes. Both our Ayurvedic Health Counselor and Ayurvedic Practitioner programs have been reviewed and are recognized by NAMA to provide education at the levels of Ayurvedic Health Counselor and Ayurvedic Practitioner respectively.
Ayurveda is a legal, unlicensed practice in the USA. Students of Ayurveda are not required to obtain licensure or NAMA certification to practice in any of the 50 states.
I did get my 200hr yoga teacher certification a few years ago and that had an anatomy component - does that count for my A&P?
The National Ayurvedic Medical Association requires 6 college level credis of Western Anatomy & Physiology. Most yoga trainings do not meet this. standard. Here’s our Anatomy & Physiology Guide & Provider Information.
How is the program structured?
Begin your Ayurvedic Health Counselor program then continue on the path to become an Ayurvedic Practitioner.
Is enrollment open year round?
New students may apply at any time throughout the year. See the Application Process & FAQ page for our exact application deadlines.
How can I expect to complete my Patient Encounter Requirements?
We offer students 3 ways to complete their Patient Encounter (PE) requirements:
Online Clinical Internship: In the Online Ayurvedic Internship participants come together and present their case study in grand rounds format under the supervision of an approved Ayurvedic Professional. The first day of the Online Clinical Internship includes an orientation.
Distance Mentorship: Students can submit their 1×1 patient encounters via the PE Submissions Module and a member of the YVI will review their case study and provide feedback.
Work with an Approved Provider: Students may work with a YVI approved provider by clicking the button “Find A Mentor” on their student portal.
