I made the body scrub powder which includes triphala, khus, orange peel, turmeric, musta, karanja, licorice, rose, red rice powder and green gram powder. I did not include orange peel because it wasn’t available. I substituted karanja for neem and I add vittiver essential oil instead of the powder. It was not available.
I used half water and half rosewater.
I made the full amount of the recipe and applied it all over my body except the back. I had received and udvartana and I remember the motions. I started on my feet, up the legs to the torso and arms. I felt the kara and ruksha quality with every movement. I set a timer to 15 minutes and started to observe. The skin began to feel cold, tingeling around different areas of the skin started. pulsation was happening in the veins but my body became colder and colder. The kara and ruksha qualities wrinkles up the skin during the time the paste dried. After 15 minutes the paste got washed off with warm water. Amazingly the skin was warm and super smooth to the touch. I performed the pinching hydration test on the skin and it jumped right back. This shows that the skin got rejuvenated and water replenished. I love how smooth the skin feels, but unfortunately this scrub is rather for an elevated Pitta client then for a Vata client. Even though the energies of the herbs are balanced(warming and cooling veerya), the cold, dryness and roughness of the scrub evaluates the Vata element. Maybe the missing orange peel ingredient would have made this scrub also more Vata balancing. The orange peel provides natural Vitamin C which is warning and is used to open the sweat pores.
I think the original recipe could be tridoshic when used with different liquid ingredients to mix the powder with.
Rosewater and the mix will be cooling (as I have experienced).
Milk, coconut milk/cream would help Vata, because the milk is more oily therefor more nourishing.
yogurt would be helpful to clean off oil.
