3 Daily Rituals to Keep You Calm and Happy
In a world that is many times faster than it was for our ancestors self-care is imperative. It is all too easy to get lost in the rush, the hussle and the bustle and look back years later wondering what happened and how you got to where you are. There isn’t one secret answer. There are many quite obvious answers. And it’s precisely because they’re obvious that we tend not to do the things we know will work.
We all know that we should eat well, exercise, drink plenty of water, cut the caffeine…and on and on. This article isn’t about teaching you something you don’t know. It’s about motivating you to do the things you already know you should do. So we are going to break things down into more manageable bite-size chunks of self-care. How about if each day you commit to only 3 things that go towards your well-being? Sounds do-able right? And what if each of those three things was nourishing all aspects of your being: body – mind – spirit. You’d be so much more supported and equipped to live the modern life with all of its unique pressures.
So here are some examples of things you can do each day to nourish yourself on every level:
- For the body:
Take your herbs, do your yoga, go for a walk, dance and shake.
- For the mind:
Meditate, journal, be quiet, draw, paint, write.
- For the spirit:
Pray, sing, gratitude, devotional practices.
The challenging part of all this is really just about prioritising and committing. If we’re late for work, or working on a deadline self-care seems unimportant in comparison. But as many of us have come to understand – if we keep drawing from the well of our energy reserves it won’t be long before that well runs dry and burnout makes itself very apparent. At that point self-care is the only priority. So why wait to get to that point?
Our health and wellness is made up of many small gestures. It’s the little things that add up to make us our shiny radiant and energized selves. So yes it is essential to find that time for a little walk, to remember to take your herbs, to make space for meditation. Because if you do not only will you be able to keep up with your life but you’ll feel great while doing it. And well, isn’t that what life is really about?
