Preceptorship Questionnaire

Important Information for Preceptors

Understanding the Purpose of This Form

Welcome Preceptors! Before you dive into filling out the form below, we want to ensure you understand its purpose and how to navigate it effectively. This form is designed to gather comprehensive details about your preceptorship program, which will be showcased on our website. Your input is crucial in painting a clear picture for our students about what they can expect from your program.

Purpose of the Preceptorship Program

The preceptorship program at the Yoga Veda Institute is an integral part of our Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) and Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) courses. This program provides students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings under the guidance of experienced professionals like you. It’s a platform for hands-on learning, fostering growth and confidence in clinical practices. For a more detailed overview of our program, please visit our Clinical Placement page.

In-person Hour Requirements

  • AHC Program: Requires a total of 180 in-person hours.
  • AP Program: Requires a total of 540 in-person hours.

It’s important to note that students are not required to complete all their in-person hours with a single preceptor. In fact, we encourage exposure to diverse experiences through working with multiple preceptors. Therefore, your preceptorship does not need to cover the entire 180 or 540 hours.

Client Encounter Requirements

As specified by the Ayurvedic Accreditation Commission (AAC), there are distinct client encounter requirements for the Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) and Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) programs:

AHC Program:

  • Minimum of 50 client encounters.
    • A maximum of 10 client encounters in the setting of Observation.
    • A maximum of 10 client encounters in the setting of Independent Practice.
    • A minimum of 30 client encounters in the setting of Supervised.

AP Program:

  • Minimum of 150 client encounters.
    • A maximum of 35 client encounters in the setting of Observation.
    • A maximum of 40 client encounters in the setting of Independent Practice.
    • A minimum of 75 client encounters in the setting of Supervised.

All client encounters completed within the preceptorship must be in-person. It’s important to note that Yoga Veda Institute‚Äôs online AHC and AP programs already cover Observational and Independent Practice client encounters. Therefore, while including these in your preceptorship is still beneficial, the primary emphasis for students will be on completing Supervised Client Encounters.

Focus of the Preceptorship

The preceptorship should be predominantly clinical. Given that the required client encounters for AHC and AP will not encompass the full in-person hours, you are welcome to integrate theory or workshops. However, ensure that these additional components focus on refining clinical skills. All material in the preceptorship should serve as a review of the content covered in our online AHC and AP programs. For any questions regarding our curriculum, preceptors can reach out to the Dean of Education at
