Your input is crucial in painting a clear picture for our students about what they can expect from your program.
Purpose of the Preceptorship Program
The preceptorship program at the Yoga Veda Institute is an integral part of our Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) and Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) courses. This program provides students with the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings under the guidance of experienced professionals like you. It’s a platform for hands-on learning, fostering growth and confidence in clinical practices. For a more detailed overview of our program, please visit our Clinical Placement page.

Program Options
Yoga Veda Institute offers two program formats to accommodate different learning preferences:
- Hybrid Program: This program combines reduced in-person hours with our comprehensive online Gurukul experience. Students enrolled in the hybrid program will work with a preceptor for 3 levels of 60 hours each. This format allows for a blend of online and hands-on learning.
- Fully In-person Program: Students enrolled in the fully in-person program will complete 3 levels of 180 hours each. This format provides an immersive hands-on experience throughout the entire program.
Please note that only Yoga Veda Institute offers the hybrid program option. Preceptors are not allowed to create their own hybrid programs. This information is shared to ensure preceptors understand that some students may only need to complete 60 hours per level, while others will require 180 hours per level, depending on their chosen program.
Clinical Hours
We are transitioning from focusing on the number of client encounters to focusing on clinical hours.
Definition of Clinical Hours: Clinical hours are defined as the time spent directly engaging with patients, observing, assisting, and providing care under supervision. This approach ensures that students develop the required clinical competencies effectively.
New Structure: 3 Levels of Student Engagement
Level 1: OBSERVE
- Hours: 60 (hybrid) or 180 (in-person)
- Focus: Students will begin by observing experienced practitioners. They will learn to assess prakṛti (individual constitution) and vikṛti (pathological condition) using traditional diagnostic techniques.
Level 2: ASSIST
- Hours: 60 (hybrid) or 180 (in-person)
- Focus: Students will advance to assisting in patient care under your supervision. They will gain hands-on experience in applying Ayurvedic principles, from determining doṣas and dhātus to administering personalized treatments.
Level 3: PRIMARY PROVIDER
- Hours: 60 (hybrid) or 180 (in-person)
- Focus: Students will take on the role of a primary provider, delivering comprehensive care plans. They will develop expertise in holistic treatment modalities and specialized areas of care, preparing them for independent practice.
Focus of the Preceptorship
The preceptorship should be predominantly clinical. Given that the required client encounters for AHC and AP will not encompass the full in-person hours, you are welcome to integrate theory or workshops. However, ensure that these additional components focus on refining clinical skills. All material in the preceptorship should serve as a review of the content covered in our online AHC and AP programs. For any questions regarding our curriculum, preceptors can reach out to the Dean of Education at brittany@yogavedainstitute.com.
