Patient Encounter Guidelines

1. How does Yoga Veda Institute meet the Patient Encounter (PE) requirements for the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA)?
2. What is the Patient Encounter requirement for the Ayurvedic Health Counselor Diploma? For the Ayurvedic Practitioner Diploma?
Patient Encounters are an integral part of any Ayurvedic Training Program. The National Ayurvedic Medical Association requires a minimum of 50 Patient Encounters for the Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) and a minimum of 100 Patient Encounters for the Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP).
Yoga Veda Institute provides students with a variety of options to meet the required Patient Encounter (PE) requirements and gain valuable experience in the process.
1. Clinical Internship in our Ayurvedic Retreat & Healing Center in Mexico.
2. Online Internship & Round Table Patient Consultations via web-conference software approved by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association, peer-reviewed and supervised by course instructors.
3. Apprenticeship in the student’s hometown with an approved provider.
After the successful completion of the Ayurvedic Health Counselor program, students are eligible to enroll in our clinical internship program at our center in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. Students are paid a small salary, accommodation, and meals and are expected to work in the center for the duration of their stay. We request students stay for no less than 4 weeks. Some students choose to focus on a specific topic area (Panchakama, Yoga Therapy, Ayurvedic Wellness & Detoxification, Sacred Breath, Yoga Nidra, Yoga Teacher Training, etc.). Students conduct Ayurvedic assessments, provide therapies, and yoga classes at the discretion of the director. Each student is exposed to a variety of opportunities to integrate their existing knowledge into practical experience. This paid internship program meets the standards of the Patient Encounter Guidelines of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association at the level of Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) and Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP). This experience is open to all students enrolled in our Diploma Track Program.
All students are eligible to enroll in our Online Ayurvedic Internship program offered to our global community. Students are provided with a variety of opportunities to practice their consultation style far before being exposed to solo consultations. Each web-conference consultation is offered through amazing new technology that allows students to fully engage with their clients. Students engage in a recorded consultation, submit recommendations to instructors and peer review, and then provide clients with Ayurvedic recommendations and follow up consultations. This experience is open to all students enrolled in our Diploma Track Program.
After the successful completion of the AHC program, students are eligible to apply for an approved internship. Students find an approved provider in their hometown. This may be a Doctor, Chiropractor, Certified Yoga Therapist, Ayurvedic Practitioner, or other approved provider. Students may, under the direct supervision of an approved provider, conduct Ayurvedic Wellness Consultations and submit them for approval for NAMA certification. This may be a paid or unpaid position and is the full responsibility of the student to negotiate the terms of their apprenticeship.
Patient Encounters are an integral of the experience at Yoga Veda Institute. Each student is responsible for choosing their area of focus, be it yoga, Ayurveda, therapy, or other. Students are able to enroll in one or all of the above options for certification. Yoga Veda Institute is committed to the success and growth of the Ayurvedic profession and to our student community.
